Streamlining Logistics Through Automated Gate Intelligence and Rapid Damage Detection Solutions

As GWC optimizes its container yard operations in Qatar, the goal is to transform container gate inspections into a precise, high-speed, and automated process. Currently, inspections at gate-in and gate-out points are largely manual, relying on teams of trained surveyors to document damage and prepare repair estimates across varying shifts. There is a critical need for an automated system to detect damage, document evidence, and generate repair estimates in under 3 minutes per container.

GWC is calling on innovators to introduce AI-powered automated inspection systems that can operate reliably in outdoor depot conditions. Your solution should enable a scalable, all-weather approach to damage detection and reporting, moving beyond the limitations of current manual, daylight-dependent methods.

💡 Your Mission:
Create an advanced automated gate intelligence solution that provides rapid, accurate damage detection and cost estimation. Your solution should leverage technologies such as computer vision, LIDAR, and 3D sensing to identify structural anomalies and surface damage.

🚀 Why Participate?
- Work directly with GWC on a high-impact logistics challenge.
- Demonstrate your capabilities in AI, 3D modeling, and automated reporting at a major operational scale.
- Gain access to relevant datasets and a pilot lane for parallel testing and validation.
- Receive up to USD 100,000 in QRDI funding to support your pilot development.
- Explore opportunities for commercial deployment across the GCC, while retaining rights for the rest of the world.

Challenge Statement

The 3-Minute Revolution: Streamlining an Autonomous, Real-Time Container Damage & Cost Estimation System

GWC is seeking solution providers to develop an automated, scalable inspection approach that can operate in Qatar's outdoor depot conditions. While current manual processes at the gate are relatively fast, peak times lead to operational congestion. There is currently no system enabling continuous 24/7 gate intelligence that provides consistent repair estimates across different shipping line criteria. GWC prefers solutions that address the entire workflow—from capture to reporting—integrating with existing depot management and workshop systems.

Your solution should combine advanced imaging technologies (such as fixed gantry imaging, LiDAR, or computer vision) with automated analytics. It must deliver actionable insights into damage classification—including structural dents, corrosion, and seal damage—through a clear 3D representation of the container with timestamped photographic evidence. The system should provide real-time repair cost estimates that materially reduce missed damage and disputes compared to the manual baseline.

The goal is to enhance operational throughput, achieve a positive ROI within 12 to 18 months, and improve logistical efficiency through a transparent, data-driven, and scalable container management solution.
